Those AFE members in the health-care industry know the importance of medical gas-systems in their facility. Per NFPA 99 (2012 edition)

5.1.14.2.2.5 Qualifications. Persons maintaining these systems shall be qualified to perform these operations. Appropriate qualification shall be demonstrated by any of the following:

(1) Training and certification through the health care facility by which such persons are employed to work with specific

equipment as installed in that facility

(2) Credentialing to the requirements of ASSE 6040, Professional Qualification Standard for Medical Gas Maintenance

Personnel

(3) Credentialing to the requirements of ASSE 6030, Professional Qualification Standard for Medical Gas Systems Verifiers

In Healthcare, many third party vendors push option 2.  As long as the owner provides training, then option 1 is acceptable.  There are many sites that could utilize this training besides hospitals such as dental offices, surgery centers, emergent care centers, free-standing EDs, teaching universities, etc.
